Can you distinguish sex facts from sex fiction?
A girl can get pregnant the first time she has sex.
It doesn’t matter if it’s the 1st time or not. Unprotected vaginal sex can lead to pregnancy. Pre-ejaculate is often involuntarily released inside; and even if ejaculation (cum) happens outside but still near the vagina, or if pulling out occurs, there is a chance of pregnancy.
Douching or peeing after sex can prevent pregnancy.
Peeing after sex does not prevent pregnancy because vaginal sex happens inside the vagina; whereas, urine comes out of the urethra (pee hole). Douching or washing the vagina after unprotected vaginal sex will not prevent pregnancy either. The best way to prevent pregnancy is to practice abstinence, use condoms and/or use a birth control method.
Using a latex (or polyurethane) condom during sex reduces the chance of getting a sexually transmitted infection (STI), including HIV.
Nothing is going to be 100% besides abstinence! When used correctly and consistently – condoms are 98% in preventing STIs and pregnancy.
You can still get pregnant if you have sex on your period.
It is possible to get pregnant on your period if you have unprotected sex. Sperm can live for up to 7 days inside the vagina. It can be confusing tracking your ovulation to determine the chances of getting pregnant – so the best choice is abstinence or using condoms during this time.
Pulling out can effectively prevent pregnancy
It’s like rolling the dice! Pulling out has to be done right – every single time! Pre-ejaculate contains sperm and keep in mind pulling out will not prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
HIV and AIDS can be cured.
HIV and AIDS cannot be cured, but there is medication a person can take to reduce the viral count in their body, which can effectively minimize the impact of HIV.
You can get pregnant from pre-cum
Pre-ejaculatory fluids (pre-cum) can contain sperm that can lead to pregnancy and STIs.
You can avoid getting HIV or other STIs by exercising regularly.
Although exercise is a healthy activity to partake in, it will not prevent STIs! Practicing abstinence and/or using condoms will prevent STIs.
Vaseline makes a good lubricant for condoms during sex and prevents pregnancy.
Vaseline and other oil-based lubricants will break the condom down. Water-based and/or silicone-based lubricants are recommended, in addition to using condoms.
You can get an STI from a toilet seat
STIs are transmitted through unprotected oral, anal or vaginal sex, intravenous drug use, mother-to-child during pregnancy and/or through sharing sex toys. Sitting on a toilet seat, sharing utensils, etc., will not lead to an STI!
You can’t get HIV from oral.
There is a risk of getting HIV through unprotected oral sex – and the risk increases when someone has cuts/sores in their mouths, already have an STI in their throat, or have a gum disease. Using flavored condoms and/or dental dams can reduce your risk.
You can always tell someone has an STI by looking at them.
There is no way to tell just by looking at someone if they have an STI. The most common symptom of an STI is no symptom! However, if you notice warts, sores or unusual discharge, or just feel in general something is off, that may be a sign to go get tested.
You’ll always know if you have an STI because it will burn and itch down there.
There are many reasons for itching and burning in your genitals (penis, vagina, anus), sometimes it is because of an STI and sometimes it may be a different type of infection, such as a yeast infection Sometimes you can have an STI and have no symptoms. Birth control pills are still effective if you share them.
You should NEVER share your birth control with anyone. Birth control pills are meant to be taken every day at the same time by the same person, so there is no room for sharing!
Some STIs can be transmitted without penetration.
Besides oral, anal and vaginal sex, it’s possible to spread STIs through intimate skin-to-skin contact, intravenous drug usage and through sharing sex toys.
Using more than one condom makes sex safer.
Always use one form of barrier method (external condoms aka male condoms, internal condoms aka female condoms) at one time. ‘Doubling up’ (using two at a time) can actually cause the condom to break.
You can get STIs through oral sex.
Unprotected oral sex (meaning without using condoms or dental dams) can lead to STIs. Whenever the mouth comes in contact with an infected person’s penis/vaginal bodily fluids, they are at risk of contracting STIs. Using flavored condoms and/or dental dams can reduce your risk.
Standing up during sex will prevent pregnancy.
Doesn’t matter what position you’re doing it, there is always a chance of pregnancy if two people have unprotected vaginal sex.
Condoms don’t fit most guys.

Birth control means I can never have babies again.
Birth control is reversible – meaning that once a person stops they can try to get pregnant shortly after. The only birth control that is not reversible is tubal litigation (getting tubes tied) or a vasectomy (getting “snipped”).
